Long before the new Texas Towing Act became law, the Association members were committed to improving the knowledge, training, and capabilities of their wrecker operators. To achieve this goal, member companies promoted safety and advanced wrecker methodology training seminars in partnership with the Texas Towing and Storage Association, Texas A&M University, and WreckMaster. As of September 2007, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) will manage new certification laws and provide guidance to the industry at both a state and local level, as it moves forward into a new era. TDLR will use certification testing procedures developed by the Towing and Recovery Association of America (TRAA) and supported by the Texas Towing and Storage Association and the Austin Towing Association to improve operator knowledge.

Here is an example of what NOT to do. In the following images you will see that the driver of a small delivery van had failed to set the parking or emergency brake when leaving his vehicle parked on an incline at the harbor wall in a Scottish fishing village. From here things go from bad to worse, until a properly trained professional wrecker operator, with the correct equipment is called in.
