Austin Towing Association Donates Vehicle to Needy Family
Austin Texas - Friday December 22, 2006 In what it plans will become an annual event, members of the Austin Towing Association, an organization that represents the majority of towing and storage lot companies in the Austin area gave single mother Sylvia Peterson a car on Friday morning. In addition to the car, the association teamed with a local law firm Brown, McCarroll to provide gifts for the children. Peterson has been battling cancer for 14 years and said the car will help getting to doctor appointments relieved friends and other family members of this burden. Jackie Milhim, the Association Secretary, and owner of Big “A” Towing, lead the project along with Reid Courtney and other Association members, said. "There are hundreds of vehicles towed and or abandoned in the Austin area each year, some of these vehicles end up at auction or simply donated by the previous owner to the defer storage costs. Many of these vehicles, such as the one we are donating today are in good condition and have years of reliable service left in them.”
“Towing Association members, many who own and operate state licensed storage facilities said Reid Courtney, the Association's first vice president, and the owner of Fingers Towing, are delighted that we can bring a little hope and happiness into the lives of Sylvia and her family. Anyone who has battled cancer for 14 years is a real fighter and deserves our help. Reid continued the Association and its members are committed to donating at least one suitable vehicle per year in an effort to help a family that has fallen on difficult times. If we can expand this cause in future years, so much the better."
